The IR Magazine Think Tank – France will take place on Wednesday, September 12 in Paris, and is an invitation-only event exclusively for senior IROs. The event will be in English. It is free to attend and our unique format enables participants to network extensively, discuss, debate and dissect topical issues affecting IR in France.
What makes our format so unique?
It is far removed from the traditional conference set-up as the event consists of a series of panel sessions followed by roundtable discussions on select IR issues. These interactive sessions are broken up by short, snappy briefings from top-rated IROs. All discussions are confidential and none of the participants’ comments are attributed. This allows attendees to talk freely and have frank, open discussions.
How do our roundtable discussions work?
Senior people – industry experts, top-rated IROs and those from the financial community and the professions – set the agenda on a panel discussion by sharing their thoughts on session topics.
Small roundtable groups of IROs discuss these issues face to face.
Each table gives feedback from its own discussion and shares ideas with the group as a whole.

Welcome to the think tank
A Macron-Economic Briefing: How will investor sentiment be impacted in 2019?
In Emmanuel Macron’s first year as president, the French economy has grown at the fastest rate since the financial crisis and foreign direct investment has reached a 10 year high. Yet what does the next 12 months have in store for business confidence in France? Will it return to peak 2017 levels? What are the key regulatory, fiscal and economic factors that will influence investor sentiment?
Regulatory roundtables: Mifid II, MAR and what is in store for liquidity contracts?
Discuss the big talking points in regulations, how it impacts you, and what IR can do to adapt to tightened control on investors, brokers and companies.
• Mifid II and its impact on research, coverage and corporate access
• Market abuse regulation (MAR) what procedures need to be implemented to ensure compliance
• Tighter regulation of liquidity contracts and the impact on IR
Morning coffee and refreshments
Case study: Facing an activist investor
Hear how to successfully survive an activist attack with examples from the real-life experience of a 30-month long defense of a company.
The Exchange: A series of best practice roundtable discussions
Exchange information, ideas and inspiration.
How the exchange works:
Choose your three preferred round-table discussions:
Treating proxy advisors like a top shareholder: improving relationships
Roadshow management: proactive IR and how Mifid II has changed roadshow delivery
Crisis management simulation: What would you do?
ESG: Your raison d’être and how it relates to your business model
How to use tech and automation to gain deeper insight and make time for more contact with investors
|Preparing for IFRS 16: How will IR adapt to changes in reporting?||Innovative targeting strategies: How can you capitalize on positive investor sentiment and access international pools of capital?|
How to approach and manage activities with ETFs
Do you need to be ‘proactive’ with ‘passive’ investors? Or will they find you? Discuss targeting and engagement with ETFs, index trackers and smart-beta funds. Understand how they work, and how you can prepare for high volumes of trading.
Q&A with the buy-side and the sell-side: A look ahead to 2019 and IR best practice
Hear fund managers and analysts share their views on the latest trends and regulations impacting business and expectations of IR teams.
• How to make valuations easier for the sell-side and the buyside?
• With a reduction of teams covering companies, what is expected of the IR department?
• How can IR improve transparency and disclosures? What does IFRS 16 change for the IRO?
• What are the big investment trends for 2019 and beyond? What should be covered in investor presentations?
At our think tanks, each participant is someone with an established track record and a strategic IR role within his or her company. The event is free-to-attend and exclusively for IROs. Attendees from our Europe Think Tank held in London included:
