The Grand Hotel, Oslo, Norway
This year has been one of tremendous change for the EU and the UK. Changes in regulations and structural shifts have had an impact on investor sentiment and decision-making, which in turn has had a huge impact on IR programs.
At this breakfast roundtable, we bring together heads of IR and experts to assess how these changes are impacting IR programs and what heads of IR can do to strengthen their team in the coming months.
The five trends we will discuss in-depth are: Shareholder activism, Mifid II and Brexit, ESG investing, alternative data, M&A
How do our roundtable discussions work?
It is an invitation-only event exclusively for senior IROs. It is free to attend and our unique format enables participants to network extensively, discuss, debate and dissect topical issues affecting today’s IROs.
It is far removed from the traditional conference or briefing set-up as the event consists of roundtable discussions on select IR issues. Industry experts, top-rated IROs and members of the investment community share their thoughts on session topics. Small groups of IROs discuss these issues face to face. Each table gives feedback from its own discussion and shares ideas with the group as a whole – all while enjoying a fantastic breakfast at the Grand Hotel Oslo.

The five trends we will discuss in-depth with heads of IR and experts are listed below.
Shareholder activism: Activism is on the rise in Europe and the approach of activist investors is changing. We’ll discuss the latest methods used to predict and prepare for a potential activist threat, how to respond publicly and how to upgrade your defenses to prevent an activist attack.
Mifid II and Brexit: IROs have taken center stage with increased workloads following the implementation of Mifid II regulations and heightened uncertainty driving continued caution from investors awaiting Brexit. What’s changed in the corporate access and research landscape since Mifid II came into play and what can IROs do to take control of the schedule?
ESG investing: We will discuss how to identify the ESG-guided actions of institutional funds as many more mainstream investors integrate ESG into their investment process. We will look at ways of understanding how ESG investors and rating agencies use data, and whether additional disclosure could improve demand for your equity.
Alternative data: We have seen a sharp increase in the number of ETFs and passive investment globally. As the sheer volume of potential data points being used grows and algorithms get increasingly sophisticated, IROs will need to become a lot savvier about leveraging alternative data for their own targeting strategies. Can artificial intelligence help you foresee volatility caused by index rebalancing? What would you do with an early warning system?
M&A: What is best practice before, during and after a corporate transaction? Before: Doing feasibility, due diligence, using data to assist decision-making on a potential merger or acquisition and preparing your strategy. During: Ensuring execution, monitoring performance and communicating via your website. Post: How do you capitalize on the new opportunities? How do you measure the effectiveness of the merger?
