Last year was one of tremendous change for the EU.
Changes in regulations and structural shifts have had an impact on investor sentiment and decision-making, which in turn has had a huge impact on IR programs.
To help make sense of all this, we partnered with Q4 to make this event possible. We’re brought together heads of IR and experts to assess how these changes are impacting IR programs in 2020, and what IROs can do to strengthen their team in the coming year.
The five trends discussed were:
How do our roundtable discussions work?
This is an invitation-only event exclusively for senior IROs. It is free to attend and our unique format enables participants to network, discuss and debate issues affecting shareholder communications.
It is far removed from the traditional conference set-up. Industry experts, top-rated IROs and members of the investment community share their thoughts on the listed topics. Small groups of IROs then discuss these issues face to face. Each table gives feedback from its own discussion and shares ideas with the group as a whole – all while enjoying fantastic views and breakfast at the Gherkin in London.

The five trends we will discuss in detail are:
Buy-side corporate access: We’ll dig into one of the largest changes in the market, the movement of the corporate access function from the sell-side to the buy-side. Explore what this means for IR, how this changes how the buy-side and issuers work together and how, you, as the head of IR can successfully adapt.
Targeting: With IR teams getting increasingly busy, where should you focus your targeting efforts in 2020? What are the different approaches to discovering and then targeting new investors to increase your global investor base? In this section, we’ll discuss efficient approaches to shareholder analysis, finding the right portfolio managers and then how to get them interested in your company.
ESG investing: We will discuss how to identify the ESG-guided actions of institutional funds as many more mainstream investors integrate ESG into their investment process. We will look at ways of understanding how ESG investors and rating agencies use data, and whether additional disclosure could improve demand for your equity.
Mifid II: IROs have taken center stage with increased workloads following the implementation of Mifid II regulations and heightened uncertainty driving continued caution from investors. What’s changed in the corporate access and research landscape since Mifid II came into play and what can IROs do to take control of the schedule?
Shareholder activism: Activism is on the rise in Europe and the approach of activist investors is changing. We’ll discuss the latest methods used to predict and prepare for a potential activist threat, how to respond publicly and how to upgrade your defenses to prevent an activist attack.
